Our Story
In the Fall of 2012, Sarah and I reconnected on Facebook, we had actually gone to the same high school 10 yrs prior, however we were not in the same friends group and really didn’t know each other. Sarah at the time was living and working in Memphis, Tennessee while I was working in Chicago. It didn’t take long for Sarah to come visit and visa versa. After about 3 months I somehow convinced Sarah to move back up to Chicago.
Sarah and I both knew at an early age that there was more to life than being stuck in a cubical working a 9-5, before you know it you’ll be ready to retire and you’ve missed out on a third of your life. Worried we were going to get sucked into the endless cycle of society, we were desperately trying to think of someway to live our lives differently. We pondered with a lot of different ideas, the idea that stuck out the most to us was to move away from it all, get away from the rat race that the world seems to be caught up in.
In the Spring of 2013 about six months after we initially reconnected, we got married. That fall our little buddy Liam joined us on what was about to become an epic adventure…

We had finally decided on what we wanted to do, we wanted to move out to the country, leave the city nonsense behind us and start a life of our own, something different from the norm we were used to. An important factor to all this was our son Liam. We wanted Liam to grow up without the worldly distractions. We wanted him to learn how to actually live life, the natural and sustainable way. Learning invaluable life skills such as growing your own food, taking care of nature and living a more sustainable life. Most important, we wanted a place where we could always be together as a family.
We knew going into this that we wanted less house and a lot more land. We visited a ton of properties all over Kentucky and just couldn’t find the right spot. Eventually, we visited a property in South Central Kentucky, there was a big creek that snaked its way behind our cabin, Liam couldn’t get out of the creek, he played in it the entire time we were at the property. Liam then looked up at Sarah and me and said “I like this place mommy and daddy”. That’s pretty much all we needed to hear to make the decision that this was the right spot for us. We made an offer that afternoon and closed on 85 beautiful acres by the end of the month.
